I came across this review of My Life as a Redhead: A Journal the other day and immediately decided to grab a copy from Amazon and it showed up today!
It is filled with facts and information about red hair and the history of redheads and has space to fill in information about yourself, your family and your experiences surrounding have red hair.
I've only checked out the first few sections, but it's a fun little book so far!

Boston University researchers have made crucial headway on a technique to protect redheads from the deadliest form of skin cancer, which the predominately pale population is up to 100 times more likely to develop.
(while animal testing is sad, I really want to see these mice that were genetically modified to have red fur!)

Musician Joel Leffler couldn’t believe his luck.
He was recording his new song, dedicated to his red-headed girlfriend, when he found out about the biggest gathering of redheads planned for Orange.

I really can't stand Ed Sheeran's music, and despise the fact he is a famous redhead but yay for redhaired guys I guess?

In 2014 photographer Kieran Dodds took a series of portraits, Gingers, of redheads in Scotland, where it is a cliche of national identity. This new, related body of work began when he looked at a map of red-hair distribution and found another hotspot: Russia. The new collection of portraits of redheads from two regions increasingly at odds politically will be exhibited at the Flow International Photography festival at the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery from 8-31 September Photo gallery here

They’re a metal band from Auckland who write songs about life as part of the 2% – those born with red hair. Hussein Moses sits down with Bloodnut to find out where the sweet spot is between taking the piss and being completely serious, and just how far they’re willing to push the concept.

Like most people with a pulse and a healthy fear of humiliation, I’ve never been keen on putting myself out there when it comes to dating. But a few years ago, I met Nick at a mutual friend's party and decided to be brave.
I didn’t make this move lightly — he’d given all the classic signs of being interested. He laughed at my dumb jokes, asked a lot of questions and kept putting his hand on my shoulder as if to say, Don’t worry, you’re not imaging this, unlike that time you thought you’d actually marry JC Chasez. Plus, he was tall, blond and his smile revealed an adorable little gap between his front teeth. So when I decided to leave, my hopeful heart opened and I asked for his number.
I didn’t text until the next night. I thought I’d make him sweat a bit. "Great meeting you, want to hang soon? ;)," I typed. To which he responded, a day later, with, "Definitely, so long as we can just be friends," Friends? So long as we can just be friends? I had to reread it several times. Then I wrote, "Just friends?" hoping I’d somehow misunderstood. "Didn’t mean to give you the wrong impression," he said, "I just don’t date redheads."

Is it just us, or are '100 sexiest men' lists all starting to look a bit unoriginal? And though we can all agree that Tom Hardy is a bit of alright (particularly when he's telling us a bedtime story...) sometimes we like a quirkier kind of handsome.
We've long been flying the flag for ginger men here in the GoodtoKnow office, and we thought it was time to let you in on the secret – ginger men make the absolute best partners. Here's why...

As much as we don’t want to talk about skin cancer, we’ve got to be brave and face the facts.
Skin cancer is the second most common cancer in people aged 15-34 in Britain, with more than a third found in people under the age of 55.
It’s well-known that redheads are at higher risk of skin cancer, including malignant melanoma, even without UV exposure. But you can help yourself; one of the most important ways of keeping an eye on things is to check your moles regularly and report any changes.
Being the slightly rarer of the two main types of skin cancer (the other is called non-melanoma), around 35 people are diagnosed with malignant melanoma every day in the UK, with rates having reportedly quadrupled within 30 years in Britain.
As we know, those with fair skin, red hair, light-coloured eyes, and lots of freckles or moles are at the highest risk. Also, if you have a personal history of sunburn, or of a family member having skin cancer, this will increase your risk, too.

Most people associate red hair with pale skin, but what about those rarest of rare gingers who can tan? Nope, we’re not describing an impossible mythical creature, these tanning ginger beings actually exist.
“But how can redheads tan?!” I hear you cry.
Within the appropriately nicknamed ginger gene, also known as the melanocortin 1 receptor, or MC1R for short, there are more than 80 variants. And given that every person has two variants of a gene (one from each parent), these 80+ variants make heaps and heaps of possible combinations, with each having their own way of dictating not only hair colour and skin tone, but also whether you have freckles or can get a tan.

We’ve all been there. Standing casually at a bar, bus stop, post office, wherever, minding your own business. But there’s this awkward silence that someone in the vicinity has to fill.
Naturally, the subject turns to your red hair, because, why wouldn’t it? It is a shiny ginger beacon, after all, and it simply must be admired by all who see it.
But, non-redheads, the gingers of the world want you to know that enough is enough. We’re bored of all those questions about heritage, our tanning abilities and whether the carpets do indeed match the curtains. Here are the questions to avoid.

The fan is on the blink, you’ve run out of ice, and leaning out of the window open just doesn’t cut it. The summer heat can be red hot, particularly for gingers, who are much more sensitive to heat pain and at higher risk of skin cancer.
So, redheads, in a bid to keep you cool this summer, here are five ways to beat off the heat…

A restaurant which offers food discounts to redheads launches a new bar tonight - with special deals for gingers.
Ginger’s Grill in Prestatyn has been offering money off food to genuine carrot tops since opening exactly a year ago.
The offer, dreamt up by ‘former ginger’ boss Mark Linaker, attracted global attention and remains a talking point for customers coming to the restaurant. (read more)

I can still hear the other fifth-grade student making fun of me for my hair color. I was always told by my mom and her friends that my red hair was beautiful and one of a kind. Most of my peers did not agree. Red hair is rare in the United States, making the color not only different, but also an opportunity for stereotyping. (read more)

Scientists have developed a drug that mimics sunlight to make the skin tan, with no damaging UV radiation involved.
The drug tricks the skin into producing the brown form of the pigment melanin in tests on skin samples and mice.
Evidence suggests it will work even on redheads, who normally just burn in the sun.
The team at Massachusetts General Hospital hope their discovery could prevent skin cancer and even slow the appearance of ageing.

Congratulations! As a redhead, you already have truly excellent hair. Whether by birth or by bottle, your ginger hair is flaming great. Literally. But what’s that? You want more of it? Well, of course you do. Who wouldn’t want to step out into the world armed with even more gingerness?
There are already plenty of tips and guides out there on ‘How to Grow Long Healthy Hair’. However, what they don’t always explain (possibly so as to not dishearten you) is that your hair growth is largely determined by your genes, and so speeding it up is not possible.
But, dear redhead, do not dismay. There are some things you can do to help your hair grow, namely by taking care of the red hair you already have, which leads to less tangles, breakage and split ends. Limiting any damage to your hair means you won’t have to lose so much length next time you hit the hairdressers, which eventually equals longer, healthier hair!

Red hair signals something dangerously wrong inside your cells.
Summer’s coming — which means red heads everywhere are cringing at the prospect of their skin frying from the sun.
Sure, most everyone — regardless of hair color — burns. Even people who never burn build up mutations in their skin when they tan; after all, tanning is the human body’s direct response to mutations triggered by ultraviolet radiation.
But redheads are in extra danger, thanks to a strange quirk of genetics.
One mutation in the gene that regulates pigmentation gives their hair that vivid color and sprinkles them with freckles, while also damaging their skin’s ability to protect itself from the sun’s harsh UV. (read more)
